A short introduction to Estonia.
The population of Estonia is 1.3 million dispersed over 45,230 square km. With 31 inhabitants per square km, Estonia is one of the most sparsely populated countries in Europe. The language is Estonian.
Estonia joined the EU in 2004 and became a Eurozone member in 2011. The economy is strong and Government debt to GDP ratio is one of the lowest in the EU. GDP growth in Estonia is approx. 1.5 %. There is no corporation tax in Estonia, but there is a distribution tax of 21 %.
Forestland cover is 49 % of the total land area, which accounts for more than 2 million ha. Private forest ownership is 43 %. Imavere is Estonia's largest sawmill, consuming 780,000 m3 of softwood per annum.
The forest sector's contribution is 3.7 % of the total GDP, and exports of forest products account for 13 % of the total exports. The total growth increment is approx. 12 million m3.
